First he’s been in freezer for two years . Do I need to expect anything difficult in skinning ? And what’s a good tan or preserving method? I’m new to birds. So any advise would be appreciated.

This is a big crow. I don’t want to ruin him if he’s freezer burned . I’m making an order ill add stop rot to it.

Whether it is freezer burned or not may depend on how you packed it when you initially put it in the freezer. I have pheasants in the freezer that have been there over 10 years. I pulled one out about two months ago and it went fine. No freezer burn because I had it in a sealed bag. (One of those machines to seal food). I hope all goes well, and I suspect it will. Before I started using the freezer bags I had birds in the freezer for a year or two and they still skinned out ok as I recall.

Ok thanks. Thats good to know. I’m new to birds. Ive just started reading up on them a little here and there . A very different creature for me compared to deer and mammals. Thanks. I appreciate your help.

Try to get the bird skinned out if possible. You may want to inject some water in various places with a syringe to rehydrate. If you can get the bird skinned out, put some wet paper towels in the skin and re-freeze it in a bag. Thaw it out in a day or so. Sometimes this method seems to “shock- rehydrate” a slightly freezer burned skin. Good luck!

To answer your queston on preseving/tanning the crow. I use powderd borax on all of my birds, and it works great. There are some bird taning oils on the market, but I have yet to try them.
