OfflineHello – My in laws had a few different birds that were mounted. My mother-in-law moved into a nursing home and we donated a Red Tailed Hawk to a local state run Forest Preserve education facility (we are in Illinois).
I am trying to find out the value of it to put it into her tax return as a donation. I have looked around and seen that these may be illegal, but I don’t think a state run facility would have taken it if that were the case.
Anyone know what something like this might be worth, and how I could prove it?
Thanks,
Tom
I would contact whoever you donated it to (the specific location) and tell them you need a letter acknowledging the donation and a monetary value attached to it for tax purposes. They should be able to give this to you and this way there is a paper trail and the IRS has no way to dispute it.
