Just curious why you wouldn’t want to use an artifical head? They are pretty easy to use once you have a few under your belt. The end result would also be more pleasing (no paint on feathers or shrinkage). They are also relatively inexpensive when compared to the time it would take to properly prepare the real head. There are several good videos that would show you how to use them. Just something to think about. I am not familiar with any videos that use the real head, but I’m sure there are some out there. Good luck.

DuckKing, just so you know, there are NO benefits to using the real head. I’ll give you a comparison.

Real Heads:
1- shrinkage
2-paint cracking
3- bugs
4- incorrect restructuring of muscles
5- overspray
6- incision to make and repair
7- 3 times the labor time

Artificial Heads:
1- no shrinkage
2- no paint cracking
3- no bugs
4- muscle structure cast from original head
5- paint before mounting, no overspray
6- no incision
7- faster mounting time
8- cost of heads are passed to the client
9- easier skin alignment
10- more precise eye setting

If your interested in a step by step video with great close ups, try Taxidermy Training Unlimited. I’m sure you’d enjoy it.

Sorry, I guess finding those species from the US might be hard.

Find Dennis Grundy down under. He has a supply company down your way. See if he has some or can make you some. If not, ask him to get some rubber for you so you can make your own. You can find him on facebook.
