OfflineI hunt a cattle ranch and the owner doesn’t like people on his property, however, he lets my grandson and I hunt as long as we are not too picky and fill all our tags. He wants them gone. We normally have filled our tags with 8″ to 11″ beards and 1″ or more spurs. That’s six in the spring and four in the fall for six years.
Last year he had one tom and I killed it. It has been all jakes for us since. Not a tom on his property all year. This year no toms and no turkeys. I saw a jake and a hen opening day and killed the jake. Never saw another turkey for a couple of weeks and then I had the best hunt I have had there with a single jake and killed him. No turkeys for several weeks. Thursday, I found two hens and two toms. One was a biggun and one was a youngun. I killed the young one, as he gave me the best shot. 6 1/2″ beard and 7/8″ spurs.
So now, I get to see if I can get my grandson in front of that big tom and I get to use the form I have had laying around for the last couple of years and I get to put into application the strut turkey course!
Sorry for the long post, I just had ramble a little.
