The birds can be purchased from breeders all around the country. How many ducks you want will depend on the size of the pen. You can put a roof on a small pen, but a large one needs only a net. The birds you buy won’t be overly friendly with you. You won’t be picking them up and playing with them. But if you get just the eggs, you can hatch them yourself and the ducklings will imprint onto you. Those birds will let you handle them. Just look up breeders on the web. Now is the time to order. Breeders don’t like mailing birds during hot months. You may need to get a license to own them from your state. If you sell any, you’ll need a federal license on top of that.
No, don’t have a wide angle. The pen is only 44′ x 80′. But what i did different was build it inside my fish pond. There is only about 12′ of dry ground above the waterline running the lenght of one 80′ side. There are different depths in the pond for both the divers and the puddlers. The pond itself is about a 1/2 acre. With such a large, natural water source and the small fish inside the pen, I shouldn’t have an issue with keeping it clean. Many guys have small ponds that have to be drained and cleaned on a weekly basis. i just got all my duck boxes built and hung up this weekend. The ringed teal have already inspected them, getting ready for the breeding season.
