OfflineThanks Aaron! the real body on this bird was as thin as two pieces of bread as well as the very defined sharp edges needed to be duplicated on the wish bone and breast bone. the lack of thickness also caused a wire anchoring issue. these two situations called for a combination of techniques to overcome these two hurdles. I duplicated the bone shape in wire, then soaked my excelsior in Durham’s Rock Hard water putty. I then wrapped the body wet, to duplicate the carcass. Once dry, the body gave me the ability to lock in the wing, neck and leg wires with a solid connection. The duplicated carcass remained quite lite, also a big benefit for the size wire I needed to use in the neck, legs and wings. American Bittern & Black Crowned Night Heron are next. thanks again!
