OfflineHey I’ve completed de-fleshing and de-fatting a magpie and and then i put it back in the freezer. I want to work on in to mount it soon. I am not sure how long just a skin takes to thaw out ? ( i did a particularly clean job and don;t want to risk feather loss etc as i’ve never done the skinning and mounting in two part job where i skin on day one and mount on a second day after re freezing ) are there any risks?
I put birds skins in the refrigerator (~34 degrees Fahrenheit) overnight. The next day they are usually thawed (except geese). If you froze immediately after what you did you should be ok unless there was a problem with the specimen to begin with. Good luck to you and welcome to the forum!

OfflineA skin will thaw quickly with no meat in it. I will pull a quail out first thing in the morning in a 70 degree shop and be able to work with the skin in a couple of hours. I have left turkey skins out over night, on a Thursday night, then put them in the fridge the next day Friday morning and work on it after I get home from my day job, then back into the fridge over night and mount the next day which is Saturday.
