OfflineI was wondering how close to the actual length and circumference of the carcass do you order your bird bodies?
I believe I heard once that the length was the most important and to try and get it within a 1/4″ of actual length. What about the circumference? How close do you try and get it? I know not to get any bigger of course if possible, but if so I can rasp it down. I was wondering if getting it to the exact circumference would be best because the lack of body fat and meat (and stretch?) would still allow for caulk/cotton and not be to tight? Or would it be better to go a little smaller still?
I wrap my bird bodies and have found that when I make them exact to the measurements of the carcass they are always a bit small. Fresh bird skins do have some stretch to them but. You have to be careful not to over stuff them to fill them out to compensate for the fat you had to remove. I did that in the early days of bird mounting! I soon found out that was a boo-boo.
