Any tricks to straighten one out? Carol put one together (hoody) a couple days ago with the crest, crown, top knot, whatever you call it spread, and is fighting with part of it that wants to curve over just a little as it goes up, lower part of teh feathers are in line, it’s like it has a memory in the feather. She normally never has a problem with them, is there any trick to straightening it out?
Keith, you might try steaming it a little. If you don’t have one, set it on the counter in the bathroom and turn on the shower, real hot. Then try to flex it back with tweezers. But I have to ask, how did she set the BASE of the crest? I t should be wide at the head and taper in towards the top, like a knife blade. Also, is the curling taking place in the white feathers or the black ones on the forehead? The forehead feathers are harder to manage. They will curve to the left or right on some birds. You might have to much skin pulled forward in that case. Hard to say without a picture.
I suggested steaming but wasn’t sure. It’s the black ones right at the front of the white, from there back it’s fine. I know she puts knife edge on top the head. It looks like it’s just a memory on the feathers, the lower part has the same angle on the feathers coming up as the rest, it’s like the shafts themselves are actually curved. You think if it’s bunched a little tight up there it might just be overcrowding the feathers and forcing them to the side?
