OfflineI HAVE DONE TAXIDERMY FOR A WHILE NOW, BUT 1 THING I HAVE NEVER REALLY LEARNED TO MOUNT IS BIRDS.
WHERE, WHO OR WHAT IS THE BEST ROUTE I SHOULD TAKE TO LEARN TO DO BIRDS. I’M FROM SOUTH CAROLINA & WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A 1 ON 1 WITH A TAXIDERMY THAT IS GOOD WITH MOUNTING BIRDS. DO NOT MIND HAVING TO TRAVEL TO WHERE EVER IS NECESSARY TO LEARN. OR IF THEY ARE SOME GOOD VEDIOS THAT SOMEONE WOULD RECCOMEND , I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT ALSO.
THANKS,

OfflineTommy, I am no where close to being in your league or anyone else’s on this forum. I am just getting started back into it after many years of down time. Lots of things have changed over the years.
Like you I would like to go somewhere and have a 1 on 1 with someone but it really isn’t an option for me right now.
I signed up for Aaron’s Taxidermy Insider course mainly to learn how to do birds. There is an excellent video on there in regards to mounting a ring neck pheasant and also a very detailed video on turkey mounting. There isn’t a duck mounting video as of yet.
I bought Page’s video on mounting a wood duck and have done a couple ducks since then. It is a nice detailed video. After looking at other people’s ducks on Taxidermy Net I still have a ways to go. 🙂 But I will get there unless I run out of ducks. lol
The thing I like about Aaron’s course is that there is a forum that goes along with the video. If you get stumped you can just ask on the forum for further explanation. When you buy other video’s that are produced if you have a question you are pretty much screwed if you can’t figure it out for yourself.
Another thing I like is I don’t have to carry around a disk with me. I can watch the video from my phone or my Ipad if I am not home. I often have some down time at work so I just log in and watch the video when I am at work. I am my own boss so I don’t have to worry about getting fired on company time. 🙂
By looking at your mounts you aren’t going to have any trouble mastering birds however you decide to go.
James Parrish is in NC (I believe in the Piedmont area) and he does classes (did in the past, not sure if he still does). You might want to contact him.
