Hey my name is Jonathan and I am just getting into taxidermy. I have some blue wing teal and Canadian geese that I would like to mount. I would like skin them and refreeze the skins. I would like to know is there anything special that I need to do to refreeze them? Like put water or something else in there with the skin or special bags? Also how long will they keep with out freezer burn or drying out? Thanks!

I just put them in a ziplock freezer bad and freeze till ready to mount. I will usually do this to fleshed, degreased, tanned birds. I wire wheel flesh em, soak in protex presoak, bloodout/degreaser, and skin prep NBU. I have also just used dawn soap with good degreasing results. 1 oz per gallon of water and soak for 30 minutes. Rinse and mix a gallon of water and anounce or two of liqua cure and tan for an hour or two. Rinse and place in ziplock freezer bag and freeze till ready to mount.

I too refreeze my birds. I skin, flesh, and wash in dawn, then freeze till I’m ready to gas and mount.I freeze the skined bird dripping wet. If it’s a bird I know will be a while before I get around too, I will fill bag with water and freeze.

Just refreeze it. It should be fine. I have done this many times with no problems.
