OfflineHere’s a Ruffed Grouse that I finished recently for an uncle. He said he was sitting in the house one afternoon and heard a thud come from the roof. Went outside and found this guy laying on the ground. He had one do the same thing a few months before but didn’t save the bird. I’m wondering if they were blind or maybe being chased by a hawk or something and not totally paying attention to where they were going? I’ve heard of birds flying into windows, but never into the side of a house.

OfflineIsn’t that the truth! I used to get all excited after deer season thinking they’d be easy to get. I figure they have to be the smartest bird as they can tell the difference between a rifle and a shotgun or a deer hunter and a bird hunter!

I have one in the freezer from a friend in North Carolina. She gave it to us for bird dog training actually but when I told her it was to pretty for that she agreed a mount would look better than the bird in my dogs mouth. It ran into her plate glass patio window. I suspect it saw the reflection and kept on going until the thud.

Nice work. When I don’t have my shot gun, grouse are as dumb as rocks and will let me almost touch them. Give me a shot gun and they won’t stick around for even a quick shot. Lol.
Hmmm! Remember when (I am dating myself I am sure!) we used to call someone a birdbrain when they did something stupid. The birds are getting even by making you think they are as dumb as rocks!
Nice mount by the way.
