New to the site and getting started in Taxidermy. Looking for tips to clean stained Swan feathers. Just skined and fleshed first swan. WHOW! Going for a standing mount, any suggest on wire size for feet, neck and wings. Any help will be great. Thanks
Use Winks rust & stain remover. Any hardware store has it. I leave the stains on for personal preference. Wire the neck with 6gauge or 8gauge and back it up by wrapping a 10 gauge to it. Legs are 6gauge for standing. They’re heavy birds.

page…when and how are you applying the winks stain remover…thanks
As i said, I don’t use it. But guys tell me that they wash there bird or rinse them first, so that the feathers are wet. Now pour the winks on and watch it run off. You may scrub some places if it’s darker than others. Then rewash to remove the winks. Then rinse, gas, and dry like normal.
