OfflineHi everyone
I was wondering if anyone here has ever used a or heard anything about Danny owens strutting turkey bodies with expanded breast that van dykes sells. They show a way of measuring for the expanded breast strutting form that seems different than other methods I have seen on the van dykes and McKenzie web sites. My birds body measures 14.5 x 23.5 but not counting the fat located in the neck and breast areas. I was wondering if I may need a bigger form to acomidate for that area? Thanks
I have found it is best to dry size my turkeys to get the best fit. Going off measurements and weights can help to narrow the form down, but I have had mixed results getting an accurate fit using measurements and weights alone.
Getting the proper expansion for a full strut or gobbling bird is still the wild west in taxidermy.
I have not used danny owens forms. I have used gunners, boondocks and cally morris forms, and I would recommend them. Be prepared to modify them to fit the bird you are working on.
