The limb on this turkey is from Head Quarters Taxidermy supply. If you haven’t had a chance to try these new turkey limbs, you should give them a try this Spring !

Here’s a Red phase Eastern that I shot a few years ago in Central WI and then a Rio I shot last year in western OK.  I did get a bunch of help from Stehlings or should I say that they were kind enough to let me help do a few things on them.tn.jpg20141224_111442.jpg

Don’t sell yourself short Joe. You did a lot of great work on those birds along with us !

Nice turkeys Joe Simmons. Is one of those the one you won the HQ contest with ? I think it was the flier. Very nice mount.

Thanks Aaron!  I may do a lesson with you if I get a Merriams this year.  It is my second favorite subspecies with an Oscellated being my first.

Speaking of Oscillate turkeys, anyone on here ever mount one?  Let’s see some pics!!!!

Joe (Kowal) that strutting turkey is gorgeous.  I have never done a turkey even though I have had on in the freezer for almost two years now.  I think it is a case of cold feet (not the turkey’s feet in the freezer, mine!) because I want it to turn out at least half as good as the one you did.

I think one of the problems is I don’t have the carcass (I purchased the skin from a seller on another forum) and I wrap my bird own bodies so I have no reference to go by in this case.  I am not sure really how to go about ordering one.  Well, maybe if I get my own this season and I skin it out it help and I can get it all figured out.

In any case, your mount looks great!

Vic, I have watched both Tim Jordan’s video and Harry Whitehead’s.  Tom turkeys are tough.  A hen and a tom are even like two different animals. I cannot do a Tom complete to perfection such as these two on my own.   I would highly suggest contacting Stehlings.  I will be training with them sooner or later with hopes to be able to complete mounts to this perfection on my own.  They are true Turkey experts!

I rarely take measurements off of the carcass. I do quite a few sub contract birds every year and most come in in various states of being skinned, so measurements are not available. I have in stock all of the different sizes of turkey forms in the series I like, and test fit them from the fleshed/washed/dried skin for the most accurate fit. You want to be able to make a fist and push it up into the breast area without to much hesitation. That isn’t the final answer on turkey body sizing, but it does give you a fairly accurate idea on if the form will work. No two turkeys are alike, so sizing can take some practice to get right.

I would not recommend wrapping a form for a turkey.
