OfflineCongrats Tanglewood! I am dying to get out. Did some scouting as well as preparing for bear season this past weekend. Unfortunately I didn’t hear or see many toms. Leaving for Wyoming and South Dakota in one week. Hope to get a Merriams or two! Hoping to then have some time left for WI. My wife really threw a Monkey wrench into my turkey hunting this spring by planning a FL vacation. Can’t complain too much but I live and breathe turkey hunting!!!!!
Good luck to all going out after thunder chickens this spring!

OfflineI went out yesterday evening. I saw a very large tom with a pretty good tom. I’d say the big one had a beard at least 10″ or more. I set up ready for them to pass by my blackberry blind set up. By the time “they” got to me , they were only one. The big tom disappeared on their way to me. So I shot the bird in the hand which was OK for me. It weighed exactly 20# and had an 8.5″ beard and 1″ spurs. I’m pretty happy with him. Now I will hunt that big tom. I have one tag left and a little over a month to go. I love this!

OfflineKilt another turkey today. Missed several opportunities on some ok toms and was walking back to the truck with my head hung low, tail between my legs. I walked around a bend in the pathway and there in front of me where three good toms in strut and a bunch of hens and jakes. I picked the tom that was clear of the rest of the flock and let him have it at about 45 yards. He has a 10″ beard, 1 1/8 spurs and weighed 19 pounds.

OfflineThank you, Vic. I’m sure your turkeys will return to your property after the season closes. Lol. This one is my best turkey to date. As a bonus, it actually makes it into my state record book if I wanted to put it in. Our turkeys here are Rio turkeys and size wise, I don’t know how they compare with other sub species.
Glad to hear you had success Tanglewood ! Would love to see some pics.
I didn’t have a chance to get out hunting this year. Been very busy with turkeys for Cabela’s plus our regular rotation of work, and filming. Glad to hear that you guys are getting out.

OfflineI took my step grandson out for his first year of hunting and on our third hunt we stalked a big tom and he performed perfectly. He did everything right and shot him in the head/neck at 37 yards. I’m pretty proud of him. The tom had a 10″ bush for a beard, 1 1/4 spurs and 18.5 pounds. It don’t get much better than that!

OfflineCongrats Tanglewood! This is the most depressing turkey season I have had since I’ve started. I hunted WY without even seeing a Tom. Noot in the field 1000 yards away, not driving down the road, nothing. I did see some hens and jakes. I also worked 2 toms the first moorning but the hung up on a fence 3 times in a 2 hour period. Never saw them but they sounded like mature birds, not jakes. I didn’t get to hunt WI which is usually a slam dunk hunt on my relatives property. WY was beautiful though and my family vacatin to FL was great. Actually saw 2 Osceolas on Disney property! Wonder if Disney has an outfitting/guide service???
