OfflineDr. Ray Rogers, a geology professor from Minnesota contacted me about pickling techniques used on fish. He is studying gar scales laid down in Cretaceous rock layers that have 2 types of scales. Some have the enamel removed and some do not. He thinks the digestive juices of some predators like crocodiles may have altered them. If you have any modern day gar scales, he might be interested. Comforting to know how some wonderful things in nature never change……….never needed to ……perfect as they are!
