Is it necissary to spray a primer coat or sealer on fish ? If so what is recommended?

I use the same gloss that I finish with to seal the scales. I apply a a heavy coat then let dry. I spray it from tail to head so it will get under the scales a little. If I have a loose scale I push it down with a needle……DC
