I am starting to try fish, and have seen a fish mounted by a local taxidermist that is awesome!!!!! I looked at the fish and it looked as if the fish was coated with a fin coating all over the fish. am i seeing right, the scales you could see a little and the fish had a real glassy smooth look. it was an skin mount. my question is can you coat a fish with an fin coating and what is the best fish gloss you can buy. need some suggestions on any thing about fish you got please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have used Polytranspar paints (from WASCO) for fish skin mounts. Before painting I used Polytranspar fungicidal sealer on the fish, painted and then used their ‘wet look gloss’ to finish and get a wet ‘shinny’ look. You can apply this gloss several times until you get the finish you like.
You asked what is the best fish gloss you can buy.I’ve Used wet look gloss.it adds a thin wet shine.if your wanting a thick deep glassy wet look its a more expensive two part a and b mixture.epo grip ultra is good cant say who’s the best.I haven’t tried them all.you can shoot the gloss from a car paint touch up gun and lay it on thick.if that’s the look you want.
