OfflineI have bow fished for many years and was considering an attempt at learning fish taxidermy. I have not turned up any posts with the search talking about mounting species such as grass carp or buffalo. I was wondering if anyone had any experience working with these fish and if they were similar to work with like bass or more common “trophy” fish.
No, they are not like common trophy fish. We have mounted both species as skin mounts. The grass carp turn our pretty good IF you custom cast the head and fins, are prepared to carve your own form, deal with grease and loose scales when skinning.
Buffalo generally do not turn out well as skin mounts. Scales are just too difficult to work with.
A better option for both is to custom mold and cast them, or find a blank if your lucky.
