I always use reference as well, but I also use a paint schedule ( which gives me a starting point ) of colors I need to blend to get the result I’m looking for. I usually vary from the schedule somewhat to create my own colorations according to my reference.

picked up a couple of DVD’s. One from Rick Krane and one from Dale Carson. Both use different methods, but end up with a great looking result. I like some of Rick’s paint methods and some of Dales, so I will combine them and come up with my own.
