This was a nice Cape Buffalo pedestal project. The hemp rope border went well with the leather backing & the Japenese Ashwood Burl veneer in the inlays is super nice. The customer didn’t think I could get some as he was told by his furniture maker it wasn’t available. Was a real welcome surprise for him. Boy would I like to have one of these for my showroom…

The ears aren’t so bad on the roans. As long as they’re not blown out or cut up at the tips. I had to do 2 sables like that, the skins were untannable. Back in the late 90’s, Zimbabwe was using a VERY inferior salt. The skins that could be tanned were all grease burned. It was like wrapping wet cardboard around a manniquin.
