For my taxidermy friends, I would like to share a tip that will help prevent any more of you from coming down with Lyme Disease. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…..me_disease as in an ounce of prevention in the form of Paramite dog dip to each gallon of water, if I recall. When your tick infested deer come in, as soon as you have it off the carcass, submerse it in a 2/3 full plastic trash can with the dip mixture for at least 10 minutes. Then hang and drain the head and hide for 30 minutes before it comes into your shop to cape out. Repeat with the next one. If your barrel is large enough you can fit 2-3 heads in at once.
I got mine from my vet at the time, but I know you can get it on Amazon. The small expense for this precautionary measure will save untold grief from an infected tick bite. It had no effect on the hide or hair. We dipped all our mammals for life-size, rugs, etc.
