OfflineIm wondering how much extra or more cape you need for a pedestal mount compared to a normal shoulder mount. Do you wrap the back of the pedestal form with the hide? Ive tried to find some pics of the back of finished pedestal mounts but cant find any. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OfflineGenerally, a cape will fit either a standard shoulder form or a pedistal form. That is, if its a good “full cape” to start with, and not a “borderline” cape. If you are the guy doing the caping, stay about 6 inches behind the front shoulders and you will have enough cape for any form out there.
I like to super glue the cape down along the outside edge of the form all the way around, and then trim with a knife from the skin side. This leaves the hair uncut and pointing naturally toward the back of the deer. My preferred method for backing is to use artificial rock.
Hooter here is the best pic I have on hand of how I do a ped. It is finished with buckskin on the back, and as Bill stated, a normal cut shoulder cape will fit a ped form like this one. There are some exceptions though. as with Gene Smith’s W07 ped., you will need to make sure you have a little extra leg skin as well as brisket.
