I have a 1957 mule deer I want to fix up. (By fix up, I mean do a remount) The rack is really nice and is the only thing worth saving. The problem is, this rack is really dirty and yellow. What is the safest way to clean these while maintaining as much of the original color as possible (or is it possible?)?

OfflineVic, this is what I do with old restoration racks. scrub the rack with TSP (tri sodium phosphate) and water with a scotch brite pad. let dry well. mix a small amount of potassium permanganate with either water or rubbing alcohol. I use the later. brush this on the antlers with a chip brush. it will go on purple, but will turn natural brown as it soaks in and dries. you can adjust the color by the amount of PP in your mixture. hope this helps!
local hardware store should have TSP
pool supply company should have PP
