I’ve seen a fighting pose at the nearby general store, but I don’t have a picture. I think it was a side by side pose also. I would assume it’d be easier to make it look realistic by putting them on opposite walls in a corner… but then again. we all know what assuming does.

Nothing new to show you right now, Bob. Been working on final prep work for another taxidermist. I had 10 deer to get ready for him after they were tanned.

Actually a mixture of both. Best stuff I have found for jobs like this. Sands easy and smooth.

I may just have to try it before long. Any tips for my first one? I do have a 4600 form that I could maybe use to rotate the head some and tilt the head up for starters.

Starting out. The most important thing to remember is not to extend the length of the neck by not understanding where the axis or spine is, and how it works. This is also very important in tilting or rolling the head and putting a sharper turn on the deer.

On these deer, I just rolled the necks and changed the angles of the heads. Nothing to major.

Here is a drawing that will give you a rough idea of where the spine runs down the neck. Notice it is not exactly down the middle.

Remember live or real specimens are all ways your best reference.
