I had a 1/2 L/S Whitetail to mount and saw this form. It wasn’t the correct pose, but I knew it was close to the correct size when I saw it.
I wasn’t gonna bid on it until Page stood up and said it didn’t have the rods in the legs, so it could be altered. Page donated it to the auction by the way. Thanks Page, I think.
I had already checked prices in catalogs for a form for this project and knew it was gonna run atleast $200.
When Page’s form came up for bidding no one even acted like it was there, no bids, couldn’t even get it started. So I offered $20 and that was the only bid on it. I noticed several folks turn and look at me like, what are you gonna do with that, I just snickered and turned my attention back to the auction where I bought several more items.
Anyway, here it is, under construction:biggergrin:.

Now my question is, do I need to do something different with the shoulders, or should I put them back in the same place they were sculpted?
And, in the next to last pic, whats the best way to straighten the upper leg to be straight with the bottom of the shoulder?
Everybody break out their reference photos and tell what you think. I’m tired of staring at them. Remember this a commercial deer.

Yeah I know it should be straight, I’m trying to figure out should I fill in the gap above the red line or cut the shoulder straight with the leg.
If I fill in the gap, I probably will need to trim down the top of the upper leg so it will not be to big around.
But, if I cut the shoulder, I don’t think it’s gonna look right.
Where is Vincent or Herman at?:(
This pic was posted in morning walk under wildlife art, by Rodney Rock. This(the right front) is close to where I wanted both legs.

The customer wanted the deer still going up, but when they are launching they have them tucked way under and one still pulled way back which would cause it to hit the wall. Plus it would make for a sewing nightmare.
Like this pic.

So I was gonna cheat a little and pull them down so I could sew easier.
I was just looking at it for shoulder referance. The feet are about even with the elbow and there is more clearance between the elbow and body…just food for thought…The shoulder is very vercital and It can move in alot of different directions. I think you are off to a good start . Only you know what you want to achieve….Good luck my friend….DC
You can’t just alter the legs. The whole shoulder needs removed and adjusted. See where your elbow is, it should be further back as in my pic. Then straighten the leg and sculpt the front of the shoulder and your better. Right now the knees are too far forward. I’d also prefer the neck be straighter, and the head not looking up into the trees. The deer is going to want to know where he’s landing, so I’d tip the head down, not up. JMO
