I got this red fox and immediately when I took it out of the cooler is smelled of what I was sure was green belly. I didn’t have time to skin it on the spot so I froze it. Even frozen I could smell it! I thawed it last night and skinned it today. It doesn’t appear to be any problem with the hair slipping anywhere but even after removing the body meat it still smells (but now as strong now).
I refroze it while I look into it before investing a lot of time into this skin. I have had green belly in a coyote and a bobcat in the past but never this bad. My question is, after I tan this guy if the smell is still present what can be used to remove it? (Not just cover it up) Or will it dissipate with time?
