OfflineThanks Tommy. Since I made this post I talked to a guy who said he quit using it because he couldn’t get it to dry. He said he was using some type of two part paste now. I guess I will go ahead and use it this one time since I bought it and don’t have time to order something different.

I personally use pro 1 hide paste it’s really thick and tacky but they only recommend it on tanned hides not dry preserved skins .Tommy
What is the working time on this brand? I have been using WASCO hide paste in powdered form and just mix up what I need for the job at hand. I would really like something that gives me more time to do adjustments. Something that is important for amateurs!

OfflineVictor you have several days with the pro 1 . Ii know some of the epoxy type hide paste you only have a few hours to make adjustments that’s not for me either. A lot of times I’ll put a garbage bag over my mount to slow things down a bit . That helps me a lot when I can’t sit there and baby sit it all day .

Well, I tried the McKinzie hide paste yesterday. I know now why no one that I have talked to uses it. lol It kind of chunked up on me. The hide hasn’t stuck to it as of this morning. Maybe I just didn’t apply it correctly.
Interesting! I have tried McKenzie and had similar results. I then tried Buckeye (which I am convinced is the same product), with the same results. That is when I switched to the powdered form of WASCO hide paste. I think I am going to take Tommy’s advice and next time I order from Pro 1 try their product.

We use Buckeye from McKenzie for all of our small and large mammals and gamehead work. You normally have a few days to make adjustments. Never had a problem with the buckeye hide paste not adhering or lumping up…….but all of our mammals are tanned and I have not used the McKenzie hide paste recently . We do not use dp on anything bigger then a squirrel . My first guess would be the hide paste lumped up when it hit the dp, similar to how silicone or latex caulking can get lumpy if it hits a dry powder like dp. That may also explain why it is not adhering for you.

OfflineThat could be the problem Aaron. They advertise that it can be used with DP and I used it with their DP so I figured it would work. I would like to try working with a tanned hide sometime. Problem is I have no idea where to send a hide to get it tanned and I really don’t want to tan one myself. Working with a tanned hide seems to be the way to go. Since I only do a deer head or two every couple years for family members only I just never got into the tanning aspect.
For now you have me interested in those darn turkeys so I am going to concentrate on them. lol
