a lot of WT will have 2 very long hairs going out of the bottom of the jaw , there got to be a purpose for them , any ideas what it might be

im not really sure, but i would guess that they’re for feeling. Probably used to perceive the space around the chin, so the deer doesnt take a branch in the kisser, or maybe even to help with browsing. They also have the clusters of whiskers above the eyes that serve a similar purpose of protection… i believe. Maybe someone with a more refined understanding could chime in.

i made the statement the other day it might help them move around at night the person acted like i was crazy , hopeing someone has something to ADD

They are like whiskers on a cat fish. a WT has several feeler hairs a few under its chin a couple on each side of their head, at the rear of the lower jaw, and a bunch of shorter ones on its chin. They help them move arround in the dark and to feed at night…..DC

They help it judge the height of obstacles they want to hop over in the dark.
