I’m not an Elk expert by any means, but that rack is pretty cool looking, tall with some good character.

The ears, it’s hard to tell from the pics, but the edges appear to not be turned all the way and they shrank and curled on you. Or the hair pattern just wasn’t groomed well. Sometimes I have ears where the hair is just unruly and wants to go everywhere.

Thanks D. I think you are right on my ears I seem to fight that all the time, not sure why but I try to spend a few extra minutes everytime.

Your elk looks good.use reference photos of the eyes while setting them and when your tucking them making sure the white scalera band is showing or not in front or back of the eye ocording to the photo.that is one big elk.

Cindy when your turning ears the skin should feel almost flat at the edge if turned properly, I find if your not making tiny holes your not close enough, And with ear liners i don’t sew the holes just groom and let dry. I also use sharp ears, It’s a carding system made by Kurt Ainsworth from Independence Kentucky. Also use some hair gel when grooming your ears it will help some. Nice job on the elk!
