As you can see, I do not post here often. I am primarily a reader. I have not really found what I am looking for so here goes.

I have a female mountain lion and after a couple months of trying to figure out which form to use, I have decided to go with the Headquarters MTL848L. I am only a hobbyist and I have done a couple bobcats but never anything of this magnitude. So this is a biggie for me. It is mine, I do not do commercial work. Never the less, I want a decent mount in the end!

1) What is you suggestion for the best eye for this mount?
2) Do you suggest an ear liner, and where is the best place to get one? I had planned to get everything from one place but I do not see this item in the HQ catalog (old catalog maybe?)
3) My biggest problem with mammals seems to be the faces. Is there a video out there that deals with this on cats?

Thanks for any assistance.

have you ever thought about getting some one on one. this might be a good project to do that with. you get some training and you should have a decent mount when it;s done

pir^2h, before you start it, let me make this suggestion. From Taxidermy Training Unlimited, get “Ashley Barretts” video. It’s great! Then purchase “Art of the Big Cat” from Breakthrough. It’s the finest mammal how to book I’ve ever read. And yes, get earliners and a nose. It will help you to understand that anatomy better. Since HQ is still growing, they don’t have everything,,,yet. So you may have to purchase items from several different companies. Good luck!

HQ has tohickon 250 IQ . Nice eye . Research Mannikins has ear liners forward and laid back . Good reference will help you see where you facial hair patterns will go . Not sure which video is best . Double check measurements . Test fit tanned cape before ruffing up form . Check for good fit .

Yes! I have thought about this. I would really like to go see Troy Rose in Idaho but that is a four to five day drive each way. I doubt that my wife will go for that (and I am not flying..period..the end)! So then I PM’d John Griffin in Kentucky (only about 3 hours away and John was the one who told me about the mountain lion forms from HQ), but John does not do cats. The only other person I could really think about was Rick Carter, however, I can’t afford his rates. I am not saying Rick isn’t worth it, I just can afford him.

I will look into that Ashley Barrett DVD. This sounds like my best course of action at this time.

Hey Page, isn’t New Bern about 50 miles or so north of Camp Lejeune? I think I passed through there several times back when I was with the Second Marine Division in the 70’s.

Thanks for the input guys!

Yep. Only 35 miles. And get that book too. It will teach you things you can apply towards all lifesize pieces.
