I know most suppliers have some sort of velvet tan, but has anyone here tried and had success with it?…The horns I have are starting to peel velvet, not too spongy..I’m trying to get out of having them freeze dried, like usual.

Justin, if it were me I would freeze dry them. I know it’s a pain to send off and wait to get back, but that is the only good way to preserve velvet in my opinion.

I send all mine to Joe Kulis.

If the antlers are hardhorned but still have 95+% velvet on them, do they still need to be treated some how? I am thinking that it will stay but not sure.

Blood in the fresh velvet is what will cause spoilage. If the velvet is already dried it should be fine. While your cape is in the tanning process, put the rack in the freezer and let it “freeze dry” further.
