We had a buck come into the shop that had both ears chopped off like this one. I suspected that a hay conditioner clipped the top of the ears off when it was a fawn hiding in an alfalfa field. I dont know for sure.

Looks good D. I hope to mount one like that soon. I will be looking for the article in Taxidermy Today.

I see some earbutt issues, but the biggest thing I see is this eye shape. The back corner of the eye is usually higher than the front corner, and yours looks about the same. Also, the highest point of the arch of the upper lid would usually be in the front 1/3 of the eye, and yours looks like its about centered. The bottom lid looks to have too much clay, and the top lids from the front are giving the deer a squinty eyed look. It’s tough to tell because of the distance of the frontal view photo, but I think your top lid might have too much clay too.

It said my post had to be approved by a moderator? I assume because it contained an image?

D,commercial pc? Those noses are pretty nice . I used one when I was first starting at a Yox class up at R. Kranes place. I had not used one since until my 12 yr old daughter decided she wanted to mount a deer. Gotta say I like the way they look, well worth the little extra money they cost. I am going to start using them again. Here is a pic of her first deer nose, I will also show her how to carve one out . I had this on the other site as well with more pics of the entire deer.

Yes John, it is a commercial mount. I use the replacementnoses on all my deer. It just gives a better final product in my opinion. I can install one about as fast as I can carve one out now.

Your daughter did a nice job.

Thanks she was pleased with it.I have not gotten the dremmeling/carving thing down as good as I would like to yet. Those replacements are hard to beat for inner detail.Hers were from Ohio Taxidermy Supply as well as the form and ears.

WOW! Thanks for all the pointers TAX, I’ll try to do better next time. After all I am still learning. Appreciate it. What were you referring to about the earbutts? Just curious, maybe I can fix that next time also.

Compare the top edge of your ear liner to the top edge of the deer’s ear. I would rotate yours more. It’s really tough to tell though from pictures. It’s much easier if you can see it in person. hopefully this pic will show. I’m not used to the forums yet…heck, it took a couple days for my last post to even show up.
