I’ve been thinking about building a small one for myself, for summer sausage, jerky, and other low temp type things, i still dont know if i want to make it handle things like barbeque… just wanted to hear from some of you what you how ya’ll like to do things, what types of wood you smoke, and more importantly, your favorite critters to smoke

This is going to sound real weenie-fied, but I got a small electric one off Craigslist about 2 years ago. It’s a Brinkman. I love that thing. Plug it in & walk away. Put a little water in it every few hours. The downsides to it is that the temp is not adjustable so it is not fond of wind or really cold weather. My brother in law bought a different kind that is adjustable & it seems to work better.

$80 at Lowe’s. I checked & my brother in law has the Master Forge. They aren’t the thickest metal, but it does have the adjustable temp, temp gauge & lock that holds all the piece together. If mine ever craps out, I’ll get that one.

Hickory or pecan is what I like . You can bake your meat in the oven till its half done then put it in the smoker . Saves a lot of time . Put at lest one stick of green in with your seasoned . Marinade is optional . I smoke deer Italian sausage . It’s awesome .
