Just picked up my 1st bee hive and got it put together. Didn’t know I was gonna have to put it together myself. For the amount of money, I figured it would be ready to go. But anyway, the bees will be here Saturday. Soon the honey will flow! Now I gotta read this book, so I’ll know how to take care of them. There’s not a chapter on Bear proofing. Have to figure something out on my own I guess, and keep the rifle close by. Mmmmmmm, sausage with honey!
Bees always facinate me, but I hate getting stung! A neighbor of mine when I was growing up keeps a bunch of bees, and does some taxidermy, so it works out good. I just give him a cape here and there no charge, and he keeps me supplied in honey! An Amish family I have scrape and stretch coon keep bees too, and make maple syrup. He needs formic acid for killing the mites in the bees, and I need syrup, so that works too!
Good luck with them bees!! I love having them, but boy, it was one thing after another, varrora mite, etc. I lost 11 strong hives in less than 60 days. Want to start them back up, but will have to talk to local keepers about prevention before I do. Fresh honey, ain’t nothing better!! Tommy
