These days we hear a lot about kids who are behavior problems, disrespectful etc. and in general, a nuisance to deal with. While there may be truth to all this there are still decent kids out there. We wrapped up our semester yesterday at the high school I teach at and I can say without a doubt that this class is the best I have EVER had. Now I realize this is an honors class but I have had honors classes before who were not so great. This class was the hardest working, best behaved (I think I only had to raise my voice to them once all semester) group of students any teacher could dream of having.
As you can see there is a raccoon in the photo. The class insisted he be included in the class picture because he is doing his part as the class mascot who keeps a watchful eye over them! He was named Hilbert after the German mathematician David Hilbert who did extensive work on the complex number system and matrices by one of my classes in 2013 when I completed the mount. Hilbert moves around the room from desk to desk on different days through a daily contest on solving mathematical problems. The winner gets Hilbert to sit on their desk the next day.
There are days I wonder why I am a teacher but there are rewards also.

I like how you are using the coon as motivational tool ! I would bet not many classrooms have that.
