That is the expression that was taught to us when small game and deer were infested with the bot fly larvae. We see this every year, and usually the small games clears up symptoms by “first frost”. This year proves to be the worst case I have ever witnessed. Just this week, 3 people came in the shop, and that was their topic of discussion. Yesterday, I saw 2 squirrels that were so bad, I almost put them out of their misery. Is this just an isolated case in our area, or is this noticable in your area?? We found 4 young this year, in the last 3 weeks, that we thought had fallen out of the nest, but apparently, their parents are trying to survive themselves, and not caring for their young. Just thought I’d share this observation to see if it is regional. Thanks for your input. Tommy

OfflineI have to say that this is wierd that you brought this up…simply because I noticed this myself over this past weekend here in the lower part of South Carolina. I watched one squirrel in town as it was straddling a white picket fence. The other two were here in my backyard. Needless to say, they looked terrible. It almost makes me never want to eat one ever again, even if they do loose them with the first frost.
Take a kid hunting and fishing.
Cooper, my thoughts exactly. Well, the 2 I was gonna put out of their misery, well I picked them up and buried them. I’m telling you, this is the worst case I have ever seen, just hope it doesn’t develope into something else. Still wondering what is killing the deer from Tax-e-dermist’s state.
