What is your opinion on it?
Do you think it is ok for someone to collect unemployment for up to 99 weeks, and have a job getting paid cash under the table?
Or selling a product while collecting unemployment. It really pisses me off. They are living off my dime, plus getting cash and not having to pay income taxes on it.
If you knew someone doing this what would you do?
Report them?
Ignore it as none of your business?
Confront the one who is paying them cash?(As they are breaking the law by not paying payroll taxes)
Confront the moocher themselves?
Just food for thought.
All of the above. Nothing pisses me off more than supporting people who are sticking it to me, and other tax payers, when we’re already getting it stuck to us by the government. What’s really surprising is any “legitimate” business would pay under the table and risk getting burned, especially for a product line that has just hit the market with no track record worth taking a risk on!
Keith, desperate people do desperate things.
How can you not get a job in 99 weeks, unless you really don’t want one? Unless it’s cash under the table, thats a sorry SOB in my book.
My wife and kids went to her sisters today for the 4th, cooked out and played in the pool, and I worked mounting a deer and prepping some capes for another local taxidermist. And we have people out here living off the system, I swear it chaps my ***.
I report my income and file taxes, while others are sucking the cow dry. I’m sick of it.
How could you eat decent food, pay all utilities, gas and insurance on your truck for 99 weeks? Between me and my wife we have four jobs. We don’t have extras.were just trying to live decent.
People play the system because they know they can get away with it.every now and then someone will get caught. They know how to stay in the gray area.We see a lot of that here.I call it lazy and sometimes it’s out of retaliation.Which is illegal.
Check it out. Got a guy near me who worked for a glass installation company. Got laid off & went on unemployment. Did it exactly how the unemployment folks wanted him to all the while doing side jobs. Got close to the end of his unemployment tenure (making it sound good) & then tells the unemployment office he hasn’t been able to get a job so he’s thinking of starting his own glass installation company. He told them he’s gonna take $20,000 out of savings for start up but will not be paying himself till things get going. Would you believe they granted him a 6 month extension in benefits. We’re close enough friends that he shared this with me & I was dumbfounded. Not knowing how to feel about this & not wanting to be a rat I checked into it a little closer without going into details… Come to find out what he did was legit, all but the side jobs. Just like you D I was skinning & fleshing a couple of turkeys on the 4th cuz it’s summertime & everyone is slow to pick up & the bills are still there.
It creates problems everywhere. People working the system make it more expensive & can make it harder for somebody that really needs the assistance. I see it at our company with workers comp cases. Because people try to scam workers comp so much, it makes it tougher when somebody who is really hurt files a claim. Unfortunately we’re becoming more & more a nation of dependence.

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the US Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever. In fact, recent ads (paid for by taxpayers) are encouraging people to apply boasting “it’s easy” to sign up. Meanwhile, the National Park Service asks us to “Please Do Not Feed the Animals”. In fact, it is a crime to do so and you could be fined. Their stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves. At Grand Canyon, the park rangers have a motto “A fed animal, is a dead animal”.

This will piss you off even more. The guy who made the above purchase turned around and sold the merchandise for cash at half price.
Here is the story.

I do’nt know of any unemployment fraud but I do know of one case of SSI fraud.
A young man of 30 years old is collecting it and he has never held a job. He’s fit as a fiddle, lifts weights, goes hunting and fishing.
He sports tatoos paid for with his SSI money. There is no reason why he can’nt work, yet some doctor must have filled out the
papers stating that he can’nt.
I know this person personally and know that he has always been lazy and refuse to work.
Worse yet he got hooked up with a woman half again his age who is her self a third generation wellfare recipient with afew kids by different fathers.
He wound up getting her pregnant and married her.
When he found out he could get Social Security payments for any children he has, he went and adopted her other illegitament kids.
This kind of stuff runs pretty prevailant in the northern part of Tioga County, Pa.
I would love to turn him in if I knew who to call. But I might have a problem proving it since I myself am not a M.D..
