I cover the backs of all my mounts with a heavy material I buy at a cloth store. On wall ped. I use rock mix and make it look like rocks.

I hate to sound stupid but if I were to cover the back then I should not fold skin over? Just cut skin where back of manikin stop’s?

For shoulder mounts, I trim the skin off the back and apply felt to cover the wood. W/P gets the skin trimmed off, buckskin applied to the concave, then I make a buckskin braid to trim it out.

Here is how I do the backs of mine. Nothing fancy, but informative if you know what you are looking at.

M# is easy, it’s the form used.

S# 263 = is my work order #
OT = Outback Taxidermy
912 = Month and Year it was mounted

Foil Sticker with my info and Signature (Which can easily be removed if the hunter choses to.)

Hunter’s name and harvest info.

I have ran across old mounts before, and often wondered the story behind it. So if you ever run across one like this you will know it was mounted by me and who killed it and when.

D I like that. I am hit and miss with the back of shoulder mounts. Sometimes felt most times nothing, but I really like that. Where did you get your stickers?

Herman, I got mine at the local small town printing company in Zebulon, NC. When I run out this time I’m going to add my website to them. I don’t even think the internet existed when I started doing this. Man I’m getting old.

I started adding the form manufacturer and # when folks would come back and want the same pose they got last time, sometimes years later. Instead of having to go back through all my records trying to find which form it was, I can just ask them to look at the back of their mount and give me that #.

Simple, but effective.
