Had a guy call today wanting to have two deer mounted. As we talk he tells me he was a management hunt in Mexico where he took these two bucks. He says that the outfitter took care of capping out the deer and having the hide tanned, and all would be shipped to him back home. My question is that, is there any special rules on this situation being ME the taxidermist taking in these deer??

Nice talking to you on the phone today Ryan. If these deer were tanned and shipped from Mexico they should have went through customs and your client should have all paper work needed to bring them across the border. If they were shipped in and were tanned in the states the tannery should have all the paper work and pass it on to your client. Somewhere they should have went through a USDA certified facility.

The guy I talked to was Ryan Garrison from Southern Pines, NC. I see you are in Carthage. If you two happen to know each other you should compare stories and make sure everyone is on the same page.
Again sorry about the mix up. I wasn’t expecting the same rare question from two different people just hours apart.:huh:
