when i was guiding we always caped the animals on the hunts like this. Not because it was easier but on a lot of the hunts the temps were warm so instead of taking a chance and having problems especially antelope we would open them up down the back of the neck to let the heat out. When i had time to cape as they came in it was done with short incision but alot of times i was just dressing and hanging in the cooler until i could get back to them. I do about as many long incision as i do short Y in the studio each year

Used to do it that way but now I just make a (y) incision on top of head and after tanned put on a stretcher. Saves a little time but mainly I like it cause of the ability to stretch the cape.
