well i decided to try and do some taxidermy i shot my first decent buck on sat. and really wanting to try and do a shoulder mount, i purchased a couple DVD on Deer taxidermy and i believe i can accomplish this task.
my main beginning question is should i send the cape out for Taxidermy tanning or try and do it at home. i was thinking about sending it to a place called Moyle Mink and tannery if i sent it out!

HQ has a great at home tanning product that is very easy to use, the only problem you will have is shaving the cap thin enough to mount ,if you do not have a way to shave it,
i used to tan my own and payed a guy to shave for me ,
D would be a great person on here to ask what would work best for you

If I were you I would maybe try both, home tan and commercial tan and see which you like best. Arlington Cape is right there in Ohio, call them and speak with Keith. Or you can call us Carolina Fur Dressing.

How much money did you want to spend to get started? You at least need a basic modeling tool set, a scalpel and extra blades.

I would recomend sending it to one of the above tanneries until you have the tool’s and a extra cape to get the feel for it . That way you can concenrate on mounting .
