OfflineHey everyone,
Today was my first time skinning for my first real taxidermy project and I’m happy to report it to be relatively successful! The skinning, along with inverting the ears, splitting the lips etc, took me a grand total of five and a half hours. I think part of the reason why it took so long is that when I was skinning I took off a lot of fat and meat with the skin as I was afraid of getting to close to the skin and tearing it. This of course meant that I had to spend an hour trimming the meat off the skin… I think I’ve learned my lesson to just skin it right the first time rather than basically doing it twice to get all the fat off.
So yeah, hooray for me. Also just a vague thank you to the people on this forum who gave me advice on how to tackle this project!
(Also I was skinning a goat head. I don’t think I mentioned the animal in the main text).

Good job getting it skinned out . Are you planning on sending it to a tannery or home tanning ?

Home tanning, as ambitious as that might be. I’m actually doing this as part of a school project so I have to do everything short of making the form myself for the sake of grades. I’m excited to do the whole process myself though, if only for the experience
