Biggest thing I have problems with a hog is getting the hide shaved like it should be. To answer your question the 5000 should work great on your hogs. I use it on about everything

Keep taking layers off of the shield until it is thin enough, you can take it in and out of acid pickle as much as you need to, just keep an eye on the pH

Be careful not to get it so thin you cut the hair roots

You are gonna need to degrease, degrease and degrease again to make sure you get it clean but the HQ5000 will work just fine.

first, if the skin dosen’t look like a golfball its not thin enough. second, i might get laughed at for this, after the shield is removed use your wire wheel (bird flesher) on the whole skin. it makes a heck of a mess but it pulls all the fat out of all the dimples exposing all the hair roots with out cutting them. i think this helps a little when you get to the grooming stage.

After it is fleshed and salted I would let it dry , then rehydrate it in a salt/degrease solution. Then put degrease in the pickle. After shaving wash it in a clean degrease bath, towel or spin dry put it back in pickle. When satisfied with the thickness of the skin, neutralize. After you apply the HQ5000 let dry and rehydrate it per directions.
