first, if the skin dosen’t look like a golfball its not thin enough. second, i might get laughed at for this, after the shield is removed use your wire wheel (bird flesher) on the whole skin. it makes a heck of a mess but it pulls all the fat out of all the dimples exposing all the hair roots with out cutting them. i think this helps a little when you get to the grooming stage.
Last hog I did was pickled in saety acid with lots of degreaser.pulled and flesh untill hair roots were showing.tanned with lutanf and oiled with protal. Turned out nice.got one to do now.ill pickle n degrease as usually but after neutralizing n fleshing thin ill towel dry rub in hq5000. Wash in degreaser next day towel dry n moun
t or freeze.
After it is fleshed and salted I would let it dry , then rehydrate it in a salt/degrease solution. Then put degrease in the pickle. After shaving wash it in a clean degrease bath, towel or spin dry put it back in pickle. When satisfied with the thickness of the skin, neutralize. After you apply the HQ5000 let dry and rehydrate it per directions.
