To everyone who has PM’ed me asking questions about the show, I would like to apologize for not answering you earlier. I”m gonna try and cover them all here instead of individual PM’s.
I would like to start by saying this was the first Worlds I have ever attended so I did not know what to expect. I know why they call it the “Worlds”, because I talked to people from many different countries that I had no idea even had taxidermist, lots of language barrier issues, at least for me anyway. Many had interpreters with them, which helped tremendously in communicating.
To the ones who wanted to know how I done in the competition, I did not get a piece finished for the show, so therefore I did not compete. Just way to much to do to get ready for a show of this caliber.
The Crown Plaza was a great venue and host as far as I saw and was concerned. There was an incident with a competitors mounts that got ruined by some lighting equipment that fell, I’m not sure who’s fault it was, if anyone’s. I felt so bad for Tim Jordan when I heard about his 5 Turkey’s that was in this piece, I spoke with him about it and he seemed to take it all in stride, although, I can only imagine how much it hurt, knowing the amount of time and potential that was in this piece.
The competition room as a whole was awesome, I was completely blown away at the work that was put into these mounts.
The Trade Show was great as well, there is nothing held back at this show. Everyone brings their best and displays their new products to the “World”.
The Banquet, this was a different story. I have to say, it was not what I was expecting. Unorganized does not even describe it.
Equipment was being set up as we entered the room. Everyone had started eating their salads by the time the invocation was done. I literally had Ken Edwards running wires and cables behind my chair and having it duct taped down while I was eating. The guy taping them down actual told my son to be careful and not trip when he got up. The computer that was for the presentation, crashed, the second computer they went to go get that we waited for them to hook up wasn’t working properly.
I will not even comment on the food.
One presenter handed out an award for 2003:confused: Presenters were confused on who won what, if anyone did win it at all.
It was held at a different location than the show so there were buses provided to transport people from one location to another, which I thought was pretty nice, until we were told at midnight that one of the buses couldn’t wait any longer and had to leave.
I can go on and on, but the bottom line, I was embarrassed for the WTC as far as the banquet goes.
I’m glad to be home. Over 1800 miles(many through the mountains) pulling a 12′ trailer. My @ss is beat. Over all we had a great time.
Yes, it is good to be home D. Good seeing you there and your gang. Did a seminar on Tuesday on whitetails and worked the trade show all week. Anita and I showed the EZ-Eye Rotation System and had Tommy Hall’s reference in the booth. Thanks to all who came by to visit and make a purchase. Congrats to all the winners!
This world show really was something special, wasn’t it? I was actually hoping to get some details of the show from here, but I wasn’t too successful with that. Nonetheless, the shoe did prove to be quite amazing.
