OfflineHey ya’ll~
So I’m quite new to taxidermy and have recently stumbled into possession of a goat head, currently in my freezer. I don’t have much experience with larger animals, definitely no goats, and as such will probably be posting quite a few questions in the following days (sorry in advance).
Anyway, I’ve figured out a way to incorporate taxidermy into a school project, so I’ll be mounting the goat for that. As a result of that, I’ll need to film me skinning the head and as such need to plan the how long I need to leave it out so I can arrange a time for a friend to film me.
So yeah, how long should I give it?
Also if anyone has any skinning tips for me I’m all ears.
Depends on the temp and the condition of the head. At around 60 degrees , 8 hours should do it, but you want to start checking it after 5 hours to see how it is doing.

Thanks very much! Do you have any idea how long it’d be if I chucked in a fridge? I was thinking of leaving it in one for a day or two for convenience’s sake. If not, I’ll just let it thaw outside. Thanks again for the help
You could probably double the thaw time if it’s in a fridge, but always check on it to make sure it isn’t slipping ( hair starting to fall out).
I would not unthaw it outside. A garage or basement is a better choice.

Oh whoops I meant outside as in outside the fridge, not actual outside. Thanks again for the help!
