I think they needed to build up the series by showing previews of other episodes and add some type of suspense or excitement to it. I found myself dozing off….I was disappointed. I think many people were expecting more traditional taxidermy, not freak show stuff….just my opinion
Just wait, you’ll see traditional stuff. And more weird stuff. Keep in mind, AMC knew nothing about taxidermy before the show. No one there hunts or gets anything mounted. No animal activisim either. They really like it. But it all boils down to the money from their sponsers. Me and Dave have been pumping them full of ideas to please the masses. This was the 1st season and they are learning. But the general public outnumbers all of us, so they will cater to them, not the taxidermy industry. Y’all should like at least 4 of the 8 episodes. You’ll just have to watch them all to see which 4.

OfflineI loved the first episode. It’s a great idea to have a comedian as a judge! I do agree that the cat-like creature was a little too “crafty” and not really high art. The cat had to have the heavy fake-looking horn to justify the crutch holding it’s face up. But I agree with the judge who said the body parts didn’t feel like they had any weight, the face, the tail, didn’t settle into the crutches, so they seemed useless (in a bad way). I understand her reference to Dali and functionality, but I disagree, I think all art is functional. A communication is a function. Her competition wins seemed to be for hats, animal parts such as wool, leather and feathers being common materials for hat-making.
The bug-guy, well it was a bit crafty too, but he had a fine concept. It was sad that his didn’t survive the transport very well. I didn’t think either project was very successful in craftsmanship, both needed to be taken up a few notches. I wonder what the time frame was?
I’m wondering how that one guy makes alien skulls… and why???

OfflineI think the “face-off” in the beginning makes it all seem awkward. They make them out to be “bad ***” and it looks like acting not them being their natural selves. They should just introduce them and tell their stories and not make it like they are enemies.

Well, since it’s not scripted, they had to show something to dramatize it. Think about it, most of us are 1 guy shops. Not a whole lot of action going on. Except when we jab a tine in our eye, or the snake wasn’t quite dead, or my favorite bit of drama,,, the bird wheel EATS your skin.

OfflineI understand, they have to keep it interesting, but I meet you and C J once or twice, and I know Dave a little and none of you seem to be as arrogant as they make you out to be. Page, you are so funny and nice 🙂 I guess what I mean is, I can’t imagine you acting like that and meaning it. Enemies or not, haha. You are too good natured.

Did anyone notice last night that CJ looked over and lipped “We Won” at the end of the show, and also during the show it had his dad helping him on the piece for the show?
The reason I bring this up is, in the radio interview CJ says himself everyone had the same amount of money to spend and you can not have anyone help you.
I know its just TV, but I’m not sure about this show being good for taxidermy. I still think Mounted In Alaska has been the best so far.
He didn’t ‘lip’ it. He said it out loud. My wife and I both looked at each other at the same time it happened. I think it tells a bigger story of the whole situation. It was brought to the attention of one of the participants that I call a friend! What we saw was a 45 year old man with maturity vs the opposite.
