OfflineI have used it. I got decent results, but not good stretch. I talked to a lot of people about it, and they felt that it was nothing more than a pickle and had concerns about how hides would hold up over time. I switched to just pickling my hides with citric acid and tanning with HQ5000 and doubt I’ll ever switch to something else unless some miracle solution comes out. I’m very please with HQ5000.
Nothing against HQ tan. I’ve been using Pro-1 brush on tan and I really like everything about it. The hair comes out clean and no oil residue on it. I get good stretch without shrinkage. Usually when you get good stretch you get shrinkage. I’ve not seen this with Pro-1

Maybe I’m wrong, but doesn’t HQ5000 require a pickle? Why would you throw out something because of the smell. Have you ever smelled Formic Acid?

I doubt that your ever wrong TAX-E-DERMIST, Please except my humble apology. Yes HQ500 does require a pickle, but KROWtan is nothing BUT a pickle.
I used that stuff and I didn’t care for it. Didn’t seem to tan the hide. All chitty feeling and slimy from what I remember. Although I did talk to the customer and he said it still looks good, and its been five years ago probably when I mounted it. I use oxalic acid pickle and lutan-fn for tan but I think I am gonna switch to something else. What do you guys recommend?

OfflineMy experience with Krowtan is this. It stinks far more than any pickle I have ever used. I accidentally spilled it when I dropped the bottle on the floor and it got all over my cabinets and drywall. It took about a year to totally remove the smell. It seemed to do a good “tan”. It dressed out nice and soft. It mounted up nice. It shrunk around the eyes, pulling the apoxie work away. I repaired it. A year later it did it again and so on and so on. I had plenty of hide paste and never had this problem before or since. I only used it once. I now pickle and Liqua tan. I get stretch that is greater than the stretched green skin and no shrinkage.
