Vincent, to answer your question, I really don’t know. I have seen it used many times and in many ways. I know what the NCTA criteria is to be recognized as one in the association. But I really don’t know what that means.
What ever it is, I will most likely never be one.
Straight from Webster:
MASTER(n)
a (1) : a male teacher (2) : a person holding an academic degree higher than a bachelor’s but lower than a doctor’s b often capitalized : a revered religious leader c : a worker or artisan qualified to teach apprentices d (1) : an artist, performer, or player of consummate skill (2) : a great figure of the past (as in science or art) whose work serves as a model or ideal
TAXIDERMIST
n. The art or operation of preparing, stuffing, and mounting the skins of dead animals for exhibition in a lifelike state
i think there needs to at least on more word in the term ‘master taxidermist’ describing what they are a master of. Like master fish taxidermist, master bird taxidermist, etc. because i think it would be pretty hard to be on the master level in all “disciplines” of taxidermy
I think the term master is used to liberally .

I know what the criteria for NC is. I just wondered what taxidermist thought of this term. I have never herd someone when ask, what do you do, reply, I am a Master Taxidermist. I know guys who don’t compete that are way better than most master taxidermist. Does that make them any less a taxidermist, I don’t think so. I am not taking away from anyone who has achieved there masters, that is a great honor. I here people called Masters because they compete in the Masters division. There are guys who are good at only one thing, birds for example, does that make them a Master. It’s the guys who can mount anything that I would call a Master. I guess you could call yourself a Master Bird Taxidermist. Jeremy, I would say if someone won a World Championship and The Masters Of Masters would trump any state criteria, just my opinion.
